Our First Camping Trip

This weekend Billy and I went on our first camping trip. It was wonderful Billy and I have been trying to go camping since the week we got married. We even used some of our wedding money to buy our own camping stuff. Unfortunately between work schedules and going up North we haven't had a any opportunity. We finally got our break this week when most of the students went on a trip leaving many of the other staff with out any hours. Jason begged Billy for one of his shifts so we decided that this would be a perfect weekend to go up.

We went to Navajo Lake just 25 miles up the canyon. Billy thought that we had passed it so we took a long detour through Cedar Breaks. We didn't care where we ended up as long as there were camping spots open. Oddly enough we made a big circle and ended up at our original destination Navajo Lake.

We arrived about 9 o'clock Thursday night and had the whole campground to ourselves. It was wonderful to be camping again.

It had been years since both Billy or I had been camping of any sort so both of us were really giddy. It was quiet cold during the nights but Billy had lots of fun building the fires.

It warmed up during the day though and we strung up our hammocks and enjoyed some reading. It reminded me a lot of when we would go to the Spruses each year and string up all three hammocks

But alas, Saturday came and it was time to pack up and go home. We had a blast and hopefully we will get to go a lot next year.

We also love camping. And after Gardner and I were married, that is all we ever did. That is all we could ever afford. We have some fabulous memories and now our kids love camping just as much as we do.

Camping is so much fun. Camping season is just starting up around here. The weather is perfect. I tried talking Scott into going somewhere for the weekend, but with a new baby he isn’t convinced it is a workable plan yet. I guess I am just more optimistic sometimes. I have this angel baby during the day but Scott currently has a different option of the crying baby the he keeps getting left with when I head out.

WOW you are doing better than Todd and I,, he keeps asking me to go camping,, but I don't understand why, when I have a great comfy bed here at home in my house, warm, and cozy lol.. Glad you had fun!! that is sweet

Craig keeps trying to talk me into taking the kids camping. For some reason sharing a tent with a couple of hyper kids doesn't sound that fun to me though (then there's keeping them away from the fire too). Plus like Kim said it's too hot most of the year to go, plus there are nasty bugs in Texas too... I'd rather sleep in my comfortable bed!

That's so funny you said "we've been trying to go camping ever since we got married"..almost like it's been years already...but it's only been 2 months right? J/k That's so fun and adventurous to go so late in the season, but it's great when you have a snuggle buddy to keep you warm. :)

I'm so jealous!!! I never made it camping this year. It's one of those things I kept telling myself that I was going to do. I have a tent that I got for free back when I bought my car (oh...3 years ago??) and it's still in the box :-(

Seriously...next year...REALLY!!

That just brought back so many good memories of camping with the family. I really miss camping and the Spruces and reading a good book in the hammock. It looks like you enjoyed a beautiful spot. How lucky to have had it all to yourselves.
